I had a chance recently to speak with a "Christian" who proceeded to tell me that the reason he didn't wear crosses on his clothing or anywhere was because he didn't want to be too offensive to someone, or to come across in the wrong way. Are you serious? These same people that would wear their favorite sports team shirt to an event, even at the risk that the rival team may have a fan there? As I thought about that, I obviously begin to think, "Am I being offensive"? My answer - Yes and No.
Dictionary.com informs us that "Offensive" is defined in different ways. The two mostly used are as an Adjective and as a Noun (my wife would be proud of me using this as well). So are we an adjective or a noun? Offensive the adjective describes how something is unpleasant or disagreeable to the senses. Now I agree in some cases, I could probably affect people in that way!! Offensive the noun is defined as "an aggressive movement". An Agressive Movement!! Wow! So of course I looked up aggressive, and here was one of the definitions, "making an all-out effort to win or succeed'. Now isn't that what we are suppose to be doing for the Kingdom of God? Making and ALL OUT Effort to WIN or Succeed, knowing that the Win and Success is directly tied to bringing Glory to Jesus and not me.
So as you go out today, this week, or this year; I ask the question - How offensive will YOU be?
