Google vs Yahoo!!! Which Are You?

A couple of years ago, I attended a wedding, in our small town in Arkansas, of some dear friends.  As we entered the wedding, it was simple, no real big decorations, bands, choirs, or any other flashy items.  It was simple, yet one of the most eloquent and beautiful weddings you would have ever imagined.  The focus was on a Husband and Wife coming together as one, under God's authority.  So what does this have to do with Google and Yahoo?

Google over the years has not only become a household name, an action term (Google It!), but they have also DOMINATED the battles of the internet search engine world.  Does it seem odd though?  I mean, got to the Google page.  It is a white page with a box to type in what your search is about.  Wow, amazing!!  In the world of iLife (iPod, iPhone, iPad, I Like, I Want, I Need) and of just the internet as a whole.  People want to interface with EVERYTHING!!  So why not one of the other 7 or 8 major general search engines?  Sure, we have gotten very accustomed to the quality results that Google provides.  But, at some point, someone, all of us, had to go to that website and continue to come back to it.

Now look at Yahoo as an example.  It has it all.  You have news, business, shopping, current events, music, videos, games, money, dating, and instant messaging.  Everything you would need access to, is one click away.  But, we choose to go the other way.  One point, get in, get what we need and move on.  Matter of fact, as I flipped over to look at Yahoo, I found myself clicking in on stories about the US Presidents.  Why?

The point of this is that we have a choice to make in our lives.  We can work to be Google Husbands, Dads, or Employees.  Or we can YAHOOOOO!!  everyday.   Isn't our world just like Yahoo?  No matter when you try to go out and get information to help you grow the world begins throwing all of these distractions at you.  You have to fight through the temptations in order to get to the point of your search.  How often have you decided to do something with your family, a project at work, a date with your wife, and as you begin, you allow the distractions of the environment pull you away from your goal?

We have to make that choice and gain that focus and become Google Men.  We as men, fathers, husbands, friends, leaders, and Christ followers, must stay focused and eliminate the distractions in our world.  They will pull you away from your direction and your purpose.  Stay on your path that God has given you in all areas.  Use His word as your Google.  One place, all Answers.  I once heard someone say that the Bible has more answers than we have questions, sounds like a major search engine doesn't it?

Now this blog is not intended to say that either one of the sights are poor sights and in now way meant to take a Yahoo user to Google.  Rather, the point is the environments.
I pray today that each of us will seek Him and His word as our search engine and our life's Google.
