If I were then, who I am now?

I was thinking about this the other day as I invested in the character of one on my boys.  My thoughts went from how much I want them (my sons) to grow up and be much better men than I am today.  As I thought through that and prayed that request, I began to say to myself, "Man, if I were the man 5, 10, 20, years ago that I am today, wow.  Then I began to realize, that I can not reflect back on those days in that way.  That is when I reminded myself of this...

If I were the man then, that I am now, then I would not be the man I am now.  God, Thank YOU for the pits, the falls, the stumbles, struggles, and failures that you have paved my journey with.  As the path continues, I also remind myself that the road ahead needs walking stones and now growing and eagerly praying to know what those walking stones will be made of in the future.

So, don't look back and regret, but rather look forward and use that as pavers of the past.  The journey ahead, if we choose, is a much nicer view and walk.
